FF1-style tile-based RPG — framework proof-of-concept
NES RPG was built as a framework validation exercise — use Final Fantasy I (NES) as a design blueprint and confirm that the DN gameplay framework can support a tile-to-tile RPG genre.
Sprint 1 (June 2026): TileToTileMover module, tile/sprite data pipeline, FF1-accurate encounter counter, battle screen, shop system, chest system, 16 sprite sheets, Corneria overworld map.
Sprint 2 (July 2026): Debug HUD, full monster sprite system with encounter tables, battle backgrounds per biome, branching dialogue system, Garland boss flow, Temple of Fiends layout, NPC tile blocking.
Status: Paused after Sprint 2. The framework validation goal was met — a working NES-style RPG is proven on the DN framework. Continuing would require significant clone-specific data work (all NPC dialogue, full overworld zones, Pravoka city) that doesn’t advance the framework. The next game will be an original concept building on these proven systems.
